The new Lightweight Technologies Forum, which will be held in Düsseldorf as part of the Aluminium and Composites Europe trade fairs from 29th November to 1st December 2016, will reflect this trend toward modern multi-material systems.

Be it automotive engineering, aerospace or construction, advancements in lightweight material systems will increasingly transcend individual groups of materials. The new Lightweight Technologies Forum, which will be held in Düsseldorf as part of the Aluminium and Composites Europe trade fairs from 29th November to 1st December 2016, will reflect this trend toward modern multi-material systems.

Combining an exhibition and a presentation forum, the event will serve as the cross-material interface between metal and fibre-reinforced composite technologies in structural components.

In several application-focused modules, experts will present their real-world experiences with issues revolving around material composites in the automotive, aerospace and architecture segments. Also on the agenda will be cross-industry thematic blocks emphasising manufacturing and production technologies such as the joining and combining of different materials.

Organiser Reed Exhibitions managed to bring on board the leading lightweight construction associations, institutes and clusters to serve as content partners for the event. They include the VDMA Working Group Hybrid Lightweight Technologies, CFK-Valley Stade, the AVK, the Aachen Center for Integrative Lightweight Production (AZL), the Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) at the RWTH Aachen, the network kunststoffland NRW and the cluster NanoMikroWerkstoffePhotonik NRW.

At the exhibition area accompanying the Lightweight Technologies Forum, select companies will showcase their multi-material lightweight construction solutions, including Gummiwerk Kraiburg, Gunnar International Weissenberger, Linn High Therm, Saertex, Trilogiq Deutschland and Wickeder Westfalenstahl.

Editor's comment: Weather with you

My work office feels unusually cold. As I type this, the BBC weather says it’s 10˚C outside. Hmm, is that typical for the end of April? Anyway, our landlord has deemed that with Spring now in the air, it’s time to turn off the heating and save money. This presents a challenge typing when I can’t feel my fingers.
