Minding the gap between risk and safety

In a preview to its Rail Safety Report 2019/20, Dura Composites has announced it has written an article that explores the platform train interface.

‘Closing The Gap: Between Rail & Safety’, looks at why unlocking the power of composites holds the key to accelerating improvement to the platform train interface.

The article is a precursor to a report into safety on the UK rail system from Dura Composites. It provides a spotlight on efforts by Government, rail operators and manufacturers to increase safety, obtaining insights from industry bodies like Composites UK and British Transport Police.

Readers can view the article online here, as well as register their interest for the full rail report. Alongside a focus on PTI safety, the report also looks at the following key areas:

  • Fire safety standards for infrastructure

  • Electrification and its challenges

  • Technology and innovation

  • Passenger and worker safety and statistics

  • CP6 and the lifecycle costs of composites

  • Public attitudes towards rail safety

  • Anti-suicide and wellbeing measures

Together with a number of industry bodies and companies such as Network Rail, TFL, NCC, Composites UK, RIA, RSSB, Structeam and Balfour Beatty, Dura Composites have formed a Steering Group called UPCRII (Unlocking the Power of Composites for Rail Infrastructure Improvements).

The group is dedicated to championing the growth and correct application of GRP composites in the rail sector and promoting its suitability for a range of rail applications.
